Country Bank Offers Competitive 12-Month CD

UPDATE 3/25/2016: Country Bank has changed the availability of this 12-month CD.

Availability: Nationwide In-branch transaction at any of the 14 Massachusetts branch locations.

Massachusetts’ Country Bank for Savings (Country Bank) added a new 12-month True Advantage CD (1.36% APY) to its product line near the beginning of March.

The minimum deposit is $25k, with no balance cap. Existing Country Bank customers’ deposits must include at least $5k of new money.

A very helpful CSR pointed out that while CDs can be funded online through credit cards and/or ACH, the 12-month True Advantage CD’s $25k minimum deposit exceeds the limit allowed, so a portion of the funding might require a check via snail mail.

CSR also stated that the Early Withdrawal Penalty is 3 months interest.

Looks as if this could be a money maker depending on how they code the credit card transaction.  If it is coded as a purchase . . . cha ching!!!

I would NEVER use a credit card.......They will charge it as a cash advance. Good luck getting those massive fees reversed.......And don't think that placing your cash advance limit at 0.00 will help......probably will be changed when the transaction goes through. Don't do it. Not worth the risk.

Huh?  Do it all the time!  And if cash advance limit is at zero, it just goes through as a purchase.

I called - CSR said only $2K of the minimum $25K could be funded via credit card.  (However, y'all might want to check yourselves because she seems a bit unsure of things.)

1.36 APY CD is limited to people who can go to a local branch to open the C.D. This should not be listed on the CD Rates Available Nationwide.

I called and spoke to a CSR. She told me that the 1.36 rate is only applicable to people who can go into the branch to open a CD. Essentially, limiting it to their local customer base. I ask the moderator of this website to clarify such...would save people a bit to time...on calling and waiting on hold just to be told "sorry, tough luck...not available for you".
