Availability

Headquartered in Raleigh, and the 3rd largest bank in North Carolina, First Citizens Bank’s market area covers 18 states coast-to-coast and the District of Columbia.

The $200 checking account bonus is available to any U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien, 18 years or older with a valid Social Security number. The Premier and Prestige checking accounts can be opened online, by phone (800.586.2351) or in person at most of the 558 branches located in Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.

I emphasized "most branches" because of this statement at the end of the fine print:

Not available at all First Citizens branches.

A call to Customer Service did not provide any real answers as to which branches do not offer the $200 bonus. If I named a specific branch, CSR could tell me if the bonus was available, but there wasn’t a comprehensive list of excluded branches. CSR was very helpful and was quite willing to relay all my information to my local branch to facilitate opening an account on Monday morning. If you plan on opening the account in person, contact Customer Service to make sure your local branch is participating in the $200 bonus program.

$150 Checking Account Bonus in Several States at First Citizens Bank

Unlike most checking account promotions, this one at First Citizens Bank doesn’t require direct deposit. There are other ways to qualify for the bonus without direct deposit. On the downside, it’s similar to most checking account promotions in that the qualifying checking accounts have potential monthly service fees. If you’re careful, this promotion can be a good deal. Here’s the link to the bank’s promotion page.

To receive the $150 bonus, you’ll need to open either a new Premier or Prestige checking account with a new debit card by April 30,...
