Foothill Federal Credit Union is offering a 28-month CD special with a 1.88% APY. It's an online special that can only be opened via Foothill's online banking. Minimum deposit is $2,000, and the maximum is $250,000. This special is listed in the credit union's rates page as of 1/30/2011.
As compared to internet banks on 1/30/2011, the best 2-year CD rate is 1.75% APY at Salem Five Bank.
Reward Checking Account
Foothills FCU continues to offer a reward checking account called MyChoice Checking. It currently has a top yield of 3.00% APY for balances up to $25K. The rate has held since I reviewed the MyChoice Checking in December 2009. This is currently the best reward checking account in the Los Angeles metro area.
Membership appears to be primarily based on Select Employer Groups in the San Gabriel Valley. However, members of some clubs and associations may also be able to qualify. Please refer to the credit union's membership page for more details. Information on the associations is available on the first page of the application page (Click on the "apply now" button on the membership page.) Membership requires a $50 minimum deposit and a one-time membership fee of $5.
