5.54% 30-Month CD at a Michigan CU (Kent County).
POSTED ON BY Ken Tumin
Update 12/15/07: The special CD is no longer listed at the credit union's website.
Kent County Credit Union has a nice certificate special with a yield of 5.54% APY and a term of 30 months. The minimum deposit is $1,000, and the maximum deposit is $100,000. New money is required.
Since the rate table had a November 1st date, I called to see if this special was still available. I called using their toll-free number (888-336-3490) and was pleasantly surprised to be connected immediately to a knowledgeable CSR. She said that they usually update their rates on the first of the month, but she expected this special to last into December.
Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends post-secondary education in Kent County. Please see their About-Us page for more details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $5 in their Share Savings Account.
Update: A reader just pointed out that more ways to qualify for membership are listed at the credit union's join-KCCU-today page. One major group that qualifies for membership is anyone over the age of 55 receiving a pension or social security check.
Branches are located in Grand Rapids and Wyoming, Michigan. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 62249). It has $30.1 million in assets and 6,120 members.
