The Friendship State Bank has a special 19-month CD with a yield of 4.54% APY. The minimum deposit is $5,000. The special isn't listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me, and I just called for additional details. According to the CSR, it just started yesterday, so it should last for a while. No checking account or other requirements are necessary. It's available at all of the bank's branches, and a branch visit is required.

Branches are located in the Southeastern Indiana cities of Friendship, Dillsboro, Cross Plains, Rising Sun, Versailles and Vevay.

The financial ratings are actually in sync with this bank: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial and 4 stars (sound) at Bankrate.com. Both are based on 3/31/08 data. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 13130).
