Be Careful Of This Small Bank

Two issues with this small bank.
1. Any problems with Debit Card, Account Balances, etc after hours and weekends you don't have access to anyone for help. If on Saturday your debit card is rejected or suspendeded because of suspected violations you are out lo luck until Monday. This is huge if you travel a lot like I do. This is horrible if you're at a car rental station or hotel.
2. I have 5 accounts with UTB I wiil be closing soon because of poor attention to longtime customers. I've been a customer fo 33 years. No bounced checks, no unfunded deposits and recently I deposited a $10k check into one of my accounts and they put a several day hold on the check. I've deposited several checks from my client in the past without any problem at all. I would reccomend a online bank - not United Texas Bank.

Impossible To Deal With

When my mother-in-law died they made everything as complicated as they possibly could. Basically ignored my husband when he tried to ask questions about how to get access to the accounts. Just no compassion. I get that this is a bank and there are processes to follow but these people have somehow had the humanity sucked out of them. Contrast them with Chase Bank who was so sympathetic and offered us to come in to discuss the paperwork requirements. UTB just has no ability to deal with people other than maybe very run-of-the-mill daily banking stuff. Which fine, if you just want the simplest possible bank account and don't want all the technology and convenience that a real bank offers, could be a good idea for you. But my suggestion is run away from UTB and find a proper bank that isn't the. worst. bank. ever.

United Texas Bank Loses Track Of Safe Deposit Boxes

Posted by: |

If anyone has any illusions about somehow getting a better or more personalized experience by working with a bank that is not one of the major chains, don't fool yourself. This has been a train wreck for decades and I would rather get scammed by Wells Fargo than ever work with someone like United Texas Bank again.

Have had accounts with UTB for probably 25 years because my mom did also. There were always random customer experience hiccups that made things challenging and they have always been last to the party on any sort of digital upgrades that other banks are adopting. But they showed their true colors when my mom died a couple months ago and I found out that they had literally lost track of her safe deposit box. I was authorized for access and she had given me a key to it but when I called they had no idea about it, even though I had bank statements of hers that showed charges for it.

I had to call them twice and they were looking into it but never ended up getting back to me. They did, however, use my call for help -- not to show even an ounce of compassion or attempt to be helpful -- but as an opportunity to freeze her account completely, including for existing ACH payments, so now in addition to having to sort all her affairs, all her credit cards went overdue and late and I'm getting hounded with all sorts of service interruption notices and consequences from that.

Still have no word from them on the safe deposit box they can't find. It sounded like they got confused when changing buildings.

It takes 2-3 months to probate a will and get letters testamentary and I'll have that soon and then they will have no choice but to be a little bit helpful. But as long-time customers, the courtesy of a conversation or an answer -- especially when I am listed as having access by her and have a will in hand that names me as sole beneficiary and independent executor -- would have been nice.
