Columbus is the largest city in and the county seat of Lowndes County, Mississippi, with a population of 23,452, as of the 2010 Census. Columbus makes up a region of east central Mississippi called the Golden Triangle along with Starkville in Oktibbeha County where Mississippi State University is located. It also includes West Point, the county seat of the adjacent Clay County. Other cities in the region include Tupelo, Pontotoc, Booneville, Amory, Louisville, New Albany, and Aberdeen.
