Columbus is the largest city in and the county seat of Lowndes County, Mississippi, with a population of 23,452, as of the 2010 Census. Most of these industries shut down by 2000.

Twenty banks and 13 credit unions are headquartered in the city, including Triangle Federal Credit Union. Other banks include Renasant Bank, BankFirst Financial Services, Community Bank, North Mississippi Bank, and BNA Bank.
