Banking in the Eureka Area

Eureka is a small city in far northern California. The city is more than 250 miles north of San Francisco and only about 100 miles south of the Oregon border. While the City of Eureka has a population of only about 27,000, it is the largest coastal city between San Francisco and Portland. The total population of Eureka and the surrounding area, which includes the cities and towns of Arcata, Fortuna, Crescent City, McKinleyville, Ferndale, Garberville, Willow Creek, Hoopa, and Blue Lake, is about 45,000.

Because it is a small city, Eureka does not have a huge banking presence. There is one bank and six credit unions that have headquarters in the Eureka area. Notable credit unions and banks based in the area include Coast Central Credit Union, Redwood Capital Bank, California State & Federal Employees Credit Union, Community Credit Union of South Humboldt, and Northern Redwood Federal Credit Union. The California State & Federal Employees Credit Union is the oldest institution based in Eureka that is still operating, having been established in 1951.

Overall, there are approximately 10 banks and seven credit unions that operate in Eureka and the surrounding area, and between them, have a total of nearly 60 branches.
