Banking in the Grand Junction Area
Grand Junction is a city of nearly 60,000 people in western Colorado, just a short distance from the border with Utah. Though it is only the 15th largest city in Colorado, Grand Junction is by far the largest city in the western part of the state. It has a metropolitan area of nearly 150,000 people. Notable communities in the region besides Grand Junction include Montrose, Fruita, Clifton, Collbran, De Beque, Mesa and Nucla.
With its size and relative isolation, you might expect Grand Junction to have a large banking presence, but it doesn't. There are just four banks and seven credit unions that have their headquarters in Grand Junction or the surrounding area. Notable institutions with their headquarters in the region include Timberline Bank, Western Rockies Federal Credit Union, Home Loan State Bank, Coloramo Federal Credit Union and Nuvista Federal Credit Union. The oldest institution headquartered in the area that is still operating is Colorado National Bank, which was established in 1905. Altogether, including banks and credit unions outside the area that have branches in and around Grand Junction, there are approximately 21 banks and 10 credit unions that have a total of about 90 branches.
