Banking in the North Platte Area
Located in Nebraska's Lincoln County, North Platte is known as a railroad town, because it was established in 1868 when the Union Pacific Railroad was extended into the area. Today, it is now home to the largest rail yard, Bailey Yard. Buffalo Bill Cody once owned a ranch in the area, and North Platte now features a living history park about his life. Even though the city only has about 25,000 inhabitants, the citizens of North Platte still have access to several financial institutions.
Indeed, six such institutions, including two credit unions and four banks, are actually headquartered in the North Platte area. These include Adams Bank & Trust, the Bank of Stapleton, the Hershey State Bank, Bank of Keystone, and, not surprisingly, the North Platte Union Pacific Employee Credit Union. There are a total of about 23 banks and three credit unions in the North Platte area, and these maintain approximately 40 different branches. The area's oldest still active bank, the Bank of Keystone, was initially established in 1909.
