Banking in the Odessa Area

Situated above the Permian Basin in Ector County, the city of Odessa is home to over 110,000 people. The City was founded in 1881 as a place to stop for water and to ship cattle along the Texas and Pacific Railway. The economy of Odessa is now driven primarily by the oil, rather than the cattle, industry. With hot summers and mild and dry winters, Odessa boasts an Indoor Football League team and an ice hockey team.

The first bank was established in Odessa in 1906. The city’s original bank was called The First National Bank of Stanton. The banking industry of Odessa has since grown dramatically to encompass more than 35 banks and 25 credit unions. These banks and credit unions boast nearly 210 branches. Eighteen of those banks and 24 of those credit unions maintain headquarters in the city. The five most notable banks headquartered in Odessa are West Texas National Bank, Community National Bank, First Capital Bank of Texas, Commercial State Bank, and Security Bank.
