Banking in the Paducah Area
With over 98,000 people throughout its larger metropolitan area, Paducah, Kentucky is the largest city in the Jackson Purchase region. Nestled where the Ohio and Tennessee rivers converge, Paducah was settled around 1821, when it was called Pekin. Today, its economy centers around the health care industry, and one of its top employers is the public school system. The city is known for its music scene and is the birthplace of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame musician, Ray Smith.
The Paducah banking industry is sizable given the population of the city itself, which is just above 25,000. Paducah is home to the headquarters of nearly 70 banks and 30 credit unions. A number of noteworthy institutions are headquartered in the city, including People's National Bank, N.A., First State Bank (TN), Banterra Bank, Southern Bank, and The Bank of Missouri. All in all, the Paducah area has nearly 560 different branches maintained by almost 35 credit unions and 110 banks. The Murphy-Wall State Bank & Trust, which was established in 1874, is still active today.
