Banking in the Wichita Falls Area

Wichita Falls is a city of about 105,000 people in Northern Texas, near the Oklahoma border. Wichita Falls has an official metro area population of about 150,000, however, Lawton, Oklahoma, another city of about 100,000 people, is only 50 miles away, so the entire area is much larger. Other notable cities in the area include Duncan, Altus, Graham, Seymour, Archer City, Burkburnett, Elgin and Iowa Park.

Wichita Falls' economy is dominated by government agencies, with nearby Sheppard Air Force Base by far the largest employer, with more than 12,000 employees. When it comes to banking, Wichita Falls and Lawton have their fair share, with more than 35 banks and 15 credit unions with headquarters in the region. Notable institutions include InterBank, Legend Bank, First Bank & Trust Co., Ciera Bank, and American National Bank & Trust. Ciera Bank, which was established in 1889, is the oldest bank still operating in the area. Altogether, the two cities and the surrounding region have approximately 230 branches from more than 70 banks and 15 credit unions.
