Wilkes-Barre is a city in the Wyoming Valley in northeastern Pennsylvania. Wilkes-Barre has a city population of only about 41,000, but it is part of a much larger metropolitan area that has more than 560,000 people. Notable cities in the region include Scranton, Williamsport, Pottsville, Kingston, Hazleton, Lewisburg, Clarks Summit, Danville, East Stroudsburg, and Stroudsburg.

The Wilkes-Barre region was for a long time one of the major coal mining centers in the U.S. and had a very strong industrial economy. A large banking industry sprouted up to service those industries, and to this day, the Wilkes-Barre region has a fairly sizable banking presence.
