Banking in the Yakima Area

Yakima is a city in the southern part of Washington State, near the border with Oregon. The city of Yakima has a population of nearly 95,000 people, but its wider metropolitan area is much larger, with nearly 250,000 people. Notable cities in the Yakima area include Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, Walla Walla, Ellensburg, Pendleton, Hermiston, Sunnyside, and Selah.

Yakima's economy is largely based on agriculture, and it has important wine and beer industries. The city also has a nearby military base (the Yakima Training Center) that is a large employer.

Banking is not a large industry in Yakima, and there are only five banks and 13 credit unions with headquarters in the region. Notable institutions that are based in the Yakima area include Banner Bank, Yakima Federal Savings and Loan Association, Gesa Credit Union, HAPO Community Credit Union, and Solarity Credit Union. The oldest institution still operating in the area is Baker-Boyer National Bank, which was established in 1869. Altogether, there are 27 banks and 20 credit unions with operations in the Yakima area, and combined they have 280 branches.
