I have found Douglas County Bank to have higher rates, substandard products and services, and inferior customer service when compared to surrounding competitors.  I would recommend looking elsewhere for a better bank.

Another Nightmare

The most frustrating experience I have ever had at a bank. Non-customers beware!!!! Poor customer service. "Bank policies" allow for zero flexibility.

Some background on myself. I am an active duty military officer going to grad school here in Lawrence. I don't have a local bank, but I needed a cashiers check for a local purchase. Went in to DCB and tellers refused to process because the back of my debit card wasn't signed. That was their "bank policy." Okay, I understand that, so I told them I could sign. Nope, "bank policy" wouldn't allow that despite multiple forms of ID. Okay, I would come back at another time with my signed debit card. Nope, that wouldn't work either because they would recognize me and remember that I came in previously without a signed card...WTF?????? Calling my bank (USAA - large nationwide bank with excellent reputation) was also out of the question. Asked the tellers the reason behind this "bank policy" and they couldn't give me a logical explanation. All they knew was it was "bank policy."

Fine, I asked my wife to process transaction after she signed her card. Wife's debit card has different number despite being a joint account. I wrongly assumed that the increased cash limit on my card would be the same for hers. That was an error on my fault. So, her card got declined. No big deal, I simply called my bank and had her cash advance limit increased. Took 2 seconds for USAA to process. My wife was waiting until I gave her confirmation that her limit was increased (about 5 minutes) and she went back inside DCB to complete transaction. Nope, another great DCB "Bank Policy" allowed for a one time run of a debit card, even though the transaction didn't go through. My wife also expressed her frustration and tellers were of course completely rude!!!

Thanks DCB for outstanding customer service and flexible policies. You really know how to win customers. I would/will never bank with you and I will pass along this great experience to my friends and colleagues so that they won't waste their time and money on making the same mistake.

Hope We Can Help!
