Our mobile devices are making things easier, from banking on the go, to accessing great information and money tips, we can find almost anything we need. If you are looking for great ways to save money, here are 10 great apps, many of them for both iPhone and Android:

1. Shop Savvy

This is one of my favorite mobile apps of all time. Shop Savvy is designed to help you find the best price on thousands of items. Using the camera on your mobile device, you can scan the barcode. Then, prices pop up. You can compare prices at local stores, as well as see online prices. You can even read reviews on the items you scan. A great app that can help ensure that you are getting the best price all the time.

2. Grocery IQ

You can coordinate your grocery list, and check for the best prices with this app. Grocery IQ comes with barcode scanning, and allows you to sync your online list with what’s on your phone. The app also works with Coupons.com and CouponBug.com to help you find even more savings. One of the best ways to save money on groceries is to stick to a list, and this app helps you do just that.

3. SavingStar

This relatively new app helps you redeem paperless coupons – and earn rewards and cash. You enter your loyalty cards into the SavingStar app, and then you can look for ecoupons specific to your shopping habits. You get to add up your savings, and they appear in your account. Your accrued funds can be deposited into your bank account, redeemed for gift cards, or donated to charity. This is an interesting app that not only helps you save money when you shop, but also helps you put that money to good use.

4. GasBuddy

5. Carticipate

The Carticipate app is only available on iPhone and Facebook. (So, if you have Facebook on your Android phone, you should be able to access it.) This app is a carpooling app. The idea is to find people to carpool with. This can help you spread the cost of commuting around, and save you money. You can use this app to find people interested in ridesharing, and to work out a schedule. Everyone takes a turn, and everyone can save money on overall gas costs.

6. Skype

If you want to save on phone calls, you might be able to use Skype on your mobile device to help out. You can use the app to get free, unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls. If you plan things right, you can get access to cheaper calling by getting a data plan and reducing the size of your phone plan. The Skype app might be especially helpful on a tablet like the iPad, since you can get fairly low-priced data plans, and then get a lower-priced cell phone plan.

7. Drink Specials

The Drink Specials app is only available on iPhone right now, but it is still a great app for the person who is looking to save when he or she heads out on the town. You can use the GPS to help you find drink specials where you are right now, or look for specials in places you plan to visit. A great way to save on entertainment.

There are a number of daily deal sites, including Groupon and Living Social, that also have mobile apps. You can use these apps to get access to great deals. Often, you can get items, and experiences, for 50% to 75% off. The key to really saving money when using these daily deal site apps, though, is to make sure that you are only buying things that you would purchase anyway. You don’t want to turn your bargain hunting into a problem that costs you more than it saves.
