ETrade's $25 Savings Account Promo Extended to End of Year

ETrade Bank has once again extended its $25 sign-up bonus on its 5.05% APY Complete Savings Account. Instead of just extending it by a month or so, this one is good for accounts opened by 12/31/07.

For more info on the Complete Savings Account, please see my ETrade Complete Savings review post. For more details on this promotion, please see my April ETrade post. I received this $25 bonus without any problems in March. However, several commenters have mentioned that they had to call before the bonus was credited. So be sure to keep track of when you sign up, and if you don't receive the bonus in 30 days after funding the account, be sure to call.

As I mentioned in my last bonus update, Etrade also has a $25 bonus for signing up for its new Max-Rate Checking Account. Here's that promotional page. This promotion ends 6/15/2007. I don't think much of this checking account since you have to worry about monthly fees. For better checking alternatives, see my best checking accounts post.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned this promo update in the finding deals post.

I'm glad you posted again about the ETrade Complete Savings Account $25 sign-up bonus! I hadn't checked my account since I opened it, and after reading your post I went and checked to make sure I had received the bonus!

Yep! It was there! I opened the account on 3/11 and the bonus was credited to my account on 4/04.

So, at least in my case, they were very prompt about crediting my account with the bonus. :)

I opened the E*Trade promotion with a $25 bonus for opening a Complete Savings Account on April 13, 2007 using this sight and E*Trade would not honor the $25 promo. They said this was intended for certain competitor customers and the link from Bank Deals to E*Trade was not valid. Their funds transfer system works great, but beware with E*Trade on this promo.

Just to update my note of June 13, 2007, I did receive my $25.00 bonus on June 15, 2007.

Thankfully, this all worked out in the end.

I opened an E-Trade account on May 24, 2007. After waiting for 32 days and receiving no bonus, I promptly made a phone call and the bonus posted two days later. The customer service was very good.

I was considering this account and noticed that no one commented on account beneficiaries. I contacted E*Trade and this was their response:

"Thank you for sending us a message regarding our Complete Savings accounts and if there is a spot on the application to name beneficiaries. Please note that our application doesn't have this spot.

You can add a beneficiary by sending us a signed letter of instruction. Please include the following in your letter:

-Account Number
-Name of Beneficiary
-Phone Number/Address of Beneficiary
-SSN of Beneficiary (not required but recommended)

You can fax the letter to our Maintenance Department at (800) 664-4641 or mail to the following address:

P.O. Box 1542
Merrifield, VA 22116-1542

Unfortunately the names of the beneficiaries listed on your account cannot be viewed online at this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

For me, this is a deal breaker. I don't want to have to resort to snail mail for a simple thing such as this, and thought others might be interested.

Ruth, Thanks for the info. That is a pain to require a letter. I was able to get beneficiaries added to my GMAC MMS account by sending GMAC my instructions using their account email service. And I can see that it's added when I receive my statements.

I have been having trouble getting the $25 promo. I contacted customer service online and this is the reply I got.

"Thank you for your email regarding the $25.00 bonus. Due to the limited information provided I am unable to confirm if your account is eligible for the $25.00 bonus. However, I can confirm that we did offer a $25.00 bonus for new complete savings accounts and that this particular offer stated that the account must be opened before February 28, 2007. Additionally, to qualify for the offer the savings account had to be open through the actual link used to advertise the promotion. To assist you with the status of your account please call customer service at the numbers supplied below."

Yet this is the information under the "PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES BELOW"

"1 Annual Percentage Yield is effective 9/4/2007 and is subject to change. A $1 minimum deposit is required to open a new account. Withdrawal limits apply. Online statements required.

2 $25 will be credited to your Complete Savings Account within 30 days of the account being funded with a minimum deposit of $1. Payments will be reported as interest income. Accounts must be opened by 12/31/2007 to quality for the $25 offer. Must be a new account opened with new funds. Offer applies to one new account per customer. Not good with any other offer. This offer is not valid for E*TRADE FINANCIAL employees."

I would be very careful trying to get this promotion. I was considering keeping a substantial amount of money in the account but now they can forget it.

I'm on hold on the phone right as I type this with Etrade's customer service and if they do not give me my $25 as they agreed to I will close my account.

OK, I had to give them the whole URL address for that offer (the CSR got it right on the first try) until they knew about the promotion. They told me I should receive the money a total of 30 days after my account has been open. If they would have told me at the beginning I would not have had to call them. When I emailed them originally I just wanted to know when I would get the $25.

I read your blog about this Etrade complete saving $ 25 bonus at the end of July and opened one with Etrade bank on Aug.2nd. When I don't see the $25 bonus today, I called Etrade bank. The CS told me that the promotion ended on July 15th. i.e. I have to open the account before July 15th to receive this bonus.
Does anyone know where I can find the information of this promotion being extended to the end of the year? So I can call Etrade bank back to get my $ 25 bonus.

If you click on the link "$25 sign-up bonus" of the original post above, you can scroll down and read the info under IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES (as Kevin pointed out in his comment). It does state that "Accounts must be opened by 12/31/2007 to quality for the $25 offer. "

Yet, it seems people are having a lot of trouble receiving the $25 bonus. Does anyone know if this offer is still valid??

I would recommend doing what Kevin did and sending ETrade the URL of this promotion which has the 12/31/07 expiration date. They have a secure message service that you can send when you're logged in. Also, be sure to save this promo ETrade web page in case it goes away.

Although I received the $25 savings account bonus okay, I didn't have good luck with a money market bonus that I signed up last year. After several months of no credit, I sent them the details of this promotion that I had copied. Within a few weeks, I had the bonus credited.

Just to update, I still have not received the $25 credit. I have emailed to remind them to give it to me. I'm afraid I may have to call them again and be on hold for 30 minutes.

Actually, Banking Guy, I had to call them up and read out the link. It took a good 2 minutes to read the entire line! Luckily the customer service rep got it in one try. It seems like nobody was told about this offer. She kept having to go and check with someone to see this if this offer existed. She told me the higher ups knew nothing about it.

Once I get my money I believe I am done with Etrade. I know it is not the CSR's fault as they are only the messengers, but Etrade seems to sail a shaking ship.

I received my $25 bonus today. It seems like you need to remind them.

I received my bonus without any problems. I have been customer for about 6 months and I have been pretty happy so far.

It looks like the link in this post no longer links to an etrade page offering the $25, extended to 12/31/07.

I opened my account in early december, I'm wondering how I'm going to prove the promotion existed.

OMG! I have NEVER seen a more poorly designed website as Etrade's. And the incompetence!!! Holy crapola! They somehow linked my new savings acount with a brokerage account I closed YEARS ago. The external account got mated with that one, and had to be REVERIFIED with the new one a second time. My login got changed to the old one. I couldn't activate outgoing transfers, and can't for 10 days since they had an old e-mail address that has been closed attached. The secure e-mail page has the subject drop down greyed out, so I can't enter one in, and thus can't send an e-mail. What a waste of time. This is the 5th such account I have had, and the MOST problems. Pathetic
