5.55% 13-Month / 5.25% 7-Month CD at a Florida Bank (Sunshine Savings).

Sunshine Savings Bank
Update 12/15/07: The rates on these CD specials have fallen.

Sunshine Savings Bank has a CD promotion with a 5.55% APY 13-month CD and a 5.25% APY 7-month CD. The minimum deposit is $1,000.

My last report on this promotion was when they were a credit union. They converted to a bank in July. The good news about this is that you don't have to worry about qualifying for membership. However, they may require a branch visit to open accounts. I haven't contacted the bank to verify this.

Update 12/10/07: I just contacted the bank, and the CSR confirmed these special rates are still available, but she didn't know how long they would last. Also, she said these could be opened by mail from any state. It requires that you send in notarized copies of you driver's license and social security card with the application. Note, small banks often change this policy so please keep this in mind if you decide to try to apply by mail.

Branches are located in the Florida cities of Tallahassee and Pembroke Pines which is located between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. The bank is FDIC insured (Certificate # 58452).

Thanks to the reader who emailed me info on this promotion.

This offer was still in effect on 12/13/07, even after the Fed rate cut this week. I opened a new account by mail.

Looks like I spoke too soon. I'm afraid they just reduced the rates to under 5%.
