4.37% 12-Month CD at Geauga Savings Bank

POSTED ON BY

Geauga Savings Bank
Geauga Savings Bank has some competitive CD rates for terms of 12 to 36 months:

CD rates as of 8/14/08:

Term APY
12 months 4.37%
24 months 4.44%
36 months 4.84%

The minimum deposit is $25,000, and the maximum is $95,000. Interest is paid and mailed annually on the anniversay date of the CD or you can receive a monthly interest check. Interest rate and APY are the same as a result of interest being paid directly to you and not becoming part of the principal balance on the CD.

One interesting note about Geauga Savings is that their website was offline this morning due to an expired domain name. The URL took you to a GoDaddy.com default page. According to GoDaddy.com records, the domain name had expired on August 10th. This has now been fixed. More evidence of the bank being slow with the web is that I was told there is no online access for your accounts. You'll receive a CD receipt and some other forms by mail at the start. After that you'll just receive yearly 1099's and the maturity notice.

In the special CD page they provide the application instructions, and they have more details in their FAQ page. I listed a few other details in my June review of this bank and its CDs.

The bank is located in Newbury, Ohio. It has been FDIC insured since 1985 (FDIC Certificate # 32287). The bank has a 3.5 star rating (good) at BauerFinancial and a 2 star rating (below peer group) at Bankrate.com. Both are based on 3/31/08 data.

Other High Certificate of Deposit Rates

The best one year CD deal available nationwide continues to be at WaMu which is offering a 4.50% APY CD. Readers have also mentioned that they were able to get IndyMac Federal Bank to match this. IndyMac's published one year rate is 4.25% APY. So if you already have accounts at IndyMac, you might want to ask for a rate match. For other CD rates, please refer to my weekly CD rate summary.

Update 8/14/08: The yields of the 2 and 3 year CD special went up a little.
