3.90% 13-Month CD & 3.75% 8-Month CD at Peoples First Community Bank in Florida

Peoples First Community Bank has a CD promotion with some competitive rates. It includes a 3.90% APY 13-month CD and a 3.75% APY 8-month CD. Minimum deposit is $2,500. A checking account is required. These rates also apply to IRA CDs. These rates are listed at the bank's home page as of 1/11/2009.

A branch visit appears to be required to open accounts. Branches are located across Central Florida, North Florida and the Florida Panhandle. Some of the cities with branches include Altamonte Springs, Apoka, Kissimmee, Clermont, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Panama City and Pensacola.

The bank's financial rating for soundness has gone down since my October 2008 post. It now has a 1 star rating (troubled) at BauerFinancial and 1 star rating (lowest) at Bankrate. Both are based on 9/30/08 data. As I recommend with any bank, it's best to stay below the FDIC limits. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1983 (FDIC Certificate # 32167).
