2.50% 18-Month CD at Worthington Federal Bank in Alabama - Local Only

Worthington Federal Bank is offering a few competitive CD rates at its Huntsville branch. The most competitive include a 2.30% APY 12-month CD, a 2.50% APY 18-month CD and a 2.55% APY 24-month CD. Minimum deposit is $1,000. Same rates also apply to IRA accounts. These rates are listed at the bank's rate table as of 7/14/09. Unfortunately, the CD rates for their North Carolina branch are much lower.

Other competitive accounts offered by the bank as of 7/14/09 include a savings account with a 1.50% APY on balances over $1,000 and a reward checking account with a 2.50% APY on all balances if certain monthly requirements are met (see post). These rates appear to be available at both branches.

It appears an in-person visit to their Huntsville, Alabama branch is required to open these CDs with the above rates.

The bank has some decent ratings for safety and soundness: 3½ stars (good) at BauerFinancial and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1989 (FDIC Certificate # 32649).
