Special 15-Month CD Rate at Aspire FCU in NJ, NY, NH and VA

Aspire Federal Credit Union is offering a 15-month certificate special with a 1.41% APY. Minimum deposit is $1,000. This special is listed in the credit union's rate sheet as of 1/13/2011.

Last year at this time Aspire had a similar CD special, but the yield was 2.01%.

As a comparison to internet banks on 1/13/2011, the best 1-year CD rate is 1.41% APY at Bank of Internet USA. As a comparison to credit unions with easy membership, the best 1-year CD rate is 1.75% APY at Connexus Credit Union (requires active checking).

The credit union also offers a reward checking account called Kasasa Cash (see review). It's still paying 3.51% APY, but this now only applies to balances up to $10K. It had been $25K.

The reward checking account has an online application, but I don't see a similar one for this CD so it may require a branch visit.

According to Aspire's eligibility page, "If you are applying online, choose the organization you are interested in joining from the drop down list and continue with your membership application." Refer to the eligibility page for the full details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $5 in the share savings account.

Aspire FCU used to be FAA Eastern Region Federal Credit Union. Consequently, some of their branches are in FAA facilities that are not open to the public. Branches are located in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and New Hampshire.
