My last report on Regal Bank was in 2009 when I first reported on this bank's savings account and CDs. The rates have fallen, but they remain very competitive. The best deals for the CDs are the terms of 12 and 18 months. The 1-year CD rate is 1.36% APY and the 18-month CD rate is 1.51% APY. The special statement savings account has a 1.36% APY with a $500 minimum balance. These rates are listed in the bank's rates page as of 5/13/2011.
It appears that a branch visit is required to open an account. Regal Bank branches are located in Livingston, New Jersey which is just west of Newark.
The bank has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 0.26% (excellent) based on December 2010 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Regal Bank for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 2007 (FDIC Certificate # 58574).
Compare Savings Accounts and CD Rates
If you compare Regal Bank's savings account with the best ones available nationwide, only Tennessee Commerce Bank has a higher rate.
For CD rates as of 5/13/2011, you can get 1-year and 18-month rates a little higher at Melrose Credit Union (1.41% APY 1-year CD) and at Alliant Credit Union (1.55% APY 18-month CD). You can also get higher rates if you close an Ally Bank 2.40% 5-year CD after one year (2.00%) or after 18 months (2.13%). This is due to Ally's small early withdrawal penalty (see post).
