Deposit Account Academy Awards??

Monday, February 25, 2013 - 8:17 PM
So if the movies can have its' Oscars, Broadway its' Tonys, ESPN its'
ESPYS... why not a Deposit Accounts Oscars awards?

First we need a good acronym; how about DANDY: that's Deposit Accounts
Notable Divine Yap.  We could have a DANDY for best CD of the year,
best RCA of the year, best Savings/MM account of the year, etc.  Surely
we could come up with several more?

If we're just doing this for fun and humor I'd vote we give out poor
performance lifetime awards to  1) Bank of America; it gets the shoot-
-yourself-in-the-foot DANDY for their $5/month debit card fee reversal,
and 2) The infamous two credit unions increasing early withdrawal
penalties on existing CDs would get the how-to-loose-customers DANDY.

If this is just for fun leave it here in the forum for additional play?
On a more serious note, given the well-deserved status and recognition
DA receives (Wall Street Journal, New York Times, etc.) due to Ken and
Jermys superb effort and results I could see a financial organization
adding a few basis points to a CD in efforts to get its name associated
with that coveted CD-of-the-year DANDY.  Everything else going on seems
to be having a negative effect on CDs; you don't suppose something like
this could have a small positive effect?

So Ken, encourage/discourage this as appropriate.  No amount of humor
needs to occur that discredits DA in any fashion.

Additional award suggestions, categories, nominees, etc welcome.  Yeah,
there's got to be a better acronym than DANDY.

Great idea cumulus! Thanks for posting!

Just a few thoughts:

On the poor performance awards, it reminds me of the Razzies. One name that came to mind for a recent Razzie is HSBC's online savings account which now pays only 0.10%.

For the CD DANDY, DCU's 8mo 1.50% CD comes to mind (at least for those who prefer short-term CDs)

Cumulus, very creative idea.

Actually, I'd pay money to see Brian Moynihan accept the Razzie.  After shooting himself in the foot announcing the $5 fee that was later rescinded he might trip on the way to the stage to accept the award a la Jennifer Lawrence (but he has not recovered as gracefully from that faux-pas (yes, pun intended) as she did).

As far as an acronym, here is another suggestion: DARLINGS (Deposit Accounts Readers Like Income Growth (or Guarantee) (and) Safety (of Principal).

Are we going to get Michelle Obama's input on this new program and maybe a letter from her wishing us well?  If she can do the Oscars, she certainly is ready for a DepositOnline appearance. :)

Thanks Ken, looks like we have liftoff!!  Pearlbrown's DARLINGS sounds like
a real winner; thanks PB.   Why not Paoli2, perhaps she'd bring along the
big O himself :)

Meanwhile how about a DANDY/DARLINGS nomination for best bank commercial
of the year: any of those clever ALLY cute kids ads work for me.

cumulus:  Is the "Big O" going to be the new name for the US if Washington doesn't get it's act together?  I was just reading about all the committees set up in Washington which are supposed to be working upon a budget etc. etc. yet no one seems to be able to come up with a resolution for keeping our country from being financially destroyed. Good luck with finding new cute names for DepositOnline because unless we get serious about making our politicians stop the irrational spending in Washington, there may no longer be a need for DO or whatever we want to call it.  Maybe we can form a group called the "Used to be Darlings of DO".  We need to face the reality about what is happening to our nation and trying to do something about it.

If only our elected officials only knew how to say "No!" when it comes to spending. "Capital One Baby" for Congress, anyone?

P.S. I guess we'll have to wait about 25 years for her to reach the constitutional minimum age before starting the campaign.
