Cashback credit cards are typical examples of rebates. There are 5% cashback for everyday usage (Grocery/Gasoline/Drugstores or GGD). There are 5% cashback for everything (for promotional period of six months or so). It is entirely possible to get 5% cashback for everything if one is resourceful.
For example, get a 5% GGD card and buy giftcards (in drugstores or spupermarkets) for the rest of expenses (with 1% fee one gets only 4% cashback though).
