File your taxes as soon as possible so no thief can take advantage of your information before you can. If you are going to mail the documents, do it personally. If you are filing electronically, make sure that your internet connection is secure and your antivirus is up-to-date. As much as possible, avoid saving tax-related documents in CDs, flash drives and hard drives as you will never know who might look at them. Watch out for scams and IRS phishing emails and report them immediately. Just follow these things and you will surely be safe from identity theft during tax season.
