I think the worst enemy for investors are fear and greed; both will cause disastrous damage to one's financial portfolio.  When the stock market is in the upward trend, poeple pour in their life savings, convinced the party will never end (greed).  When the gravility factor finally catch up,it is the same group of poeple who cannot take the heat and sell at the lowest point (fear).  Thus the worst fear is inside the investors themselves: emotion in the form of greed and fear.

Thus the best and optimum investment strategy has to be one that is totally indifferent to the human greed and fear and can be carried out technically and automatically.
