According to the article, every week the government shuts down, annualized GDP is reduced by 0.15%,  Although this will be painful to the economy, it won't be so drastic that politicans will hurry to get matters resolved.

The last shut down added 1.4 billion to the deficit according to CBO testimony last week. He said that because 1/2 of the budget had been approved last time it was only 1.4 billion and would be much more this time because  no part of the budget had been approved. He also said that 750,000 jobs would be lost.
