New Service Can Block Pesky — and Illegal — Robocallers

From finance.yahoo:

"The federal do-not-call database was supposed to protect consumers
from annoying telemarketing calls. There’s only one problem –
fraudulent telemarketers ignore the list and make billions of
robocalls pitching scams and con games.

Note - If you use the suggested Nomorobo link to enroll, but none of your
carrier/carriers support it, you'll receive the message:

Sorry! None of your carriers currently support Nomorobo.

But there is something that you can do!

Please call the customer service number below and request that they
add Simultaneous Ringing to their service so you can finally stop
getting robocalls. The more people that call them, the better.

     e.g.      AT&T Customer Service  1-800-331-0500
You'll also receive an email when your carrier becomes available.

So you'll know when/if you can take advantage of this!

Thanks for posting cumulus.  It's a definite need.

The good news is that this may be a remedy for the annoying robocalls, since we don't seem to be able to enforce existing laws for calls which are in violation of the Do-not-call-list.

The bad news is that the site may be overwhelmed with access today.  I could not complete my enrollment this morning - received an error message:    "Error in exception handler: Expected response code 250 but got code "454", with message "454 Throttling failure: Daily message quota exceeded. " in /var/app/current/vendor/swiftmailer/swiftmailer/lib/classes/Swift/Transport/AbstractSmtpTransport.php:386"

Are you planning to enroll?

Re #1 pearlbrown

Thanks for the added info PB.

My good news was yes I was able to enroll.

The bad news was my carrier (AT&T) did not support the facility.  I
phoned my carrier requesting they add Simultaneous Ringing to their
service and the CSR I spoke with was in the dark about it.  After
chatter and reference to the WEB article the CSR passed it on to a
manager/supervisor who promised to research it and phone me back.

Hopefully this service will see the light of day; agree with you
100% about the definte need for it.

I have Comcast and when I go online I can get all the incoming, outgoing and missed calls and their phone numbers. I can also block calls with a message that this number is not accepting your calls. I blocked one the other day and blocked my son by mistake. He called me on my cell and asked me if I was mad at him. I said no just didn't do it right this time. So I went through some of my recent blocks but they we all OK. I could also block all calls that have their numbers blocked. Not sure I can still do that
