Do You Believe Gold Is Money? Why Or Why Not?

Ben Bernanke does not believe Gold is money.  You can see/hear him say that for yourself in the accompanying video link.

What do you think?  Does Gold have any place in US or Global banking?  Or is it just an old distraction muddying up the recovery?

If Ben Bernanke doesn't believe Gold is money...  is that a reflection of the US position on the subject?  If so, does the US actually have any Gold stored anywhere?  If the US does...  why?
