We have been banking with Neighbor's Federal Credit Union for many years. We have our car loan through them as well. I think the reason why we will never leave is because of their outstanding customer service and their fraud detection. Twice in the past 5 years they have called us the same day and alerted us to fraudulent activity on our account. Within hours they deactivated my card that had the number stolen, and the money was back into our account within days! I never understood how they caught it so quickly because the purchases that were made were in the same state, and didn't look particularly suspicious. Thank goodness they realized that I don't normally spend that amount of money in a few hours time and they declined any further transactions for these thieves. I went into a branch the next day and they were so super helpful. They made me a new card, and went above and beyond to assure me that my money would be back into our account within 3-5 business days. We had a car loan through Whitney Bank and they were such a pain to deal with. They took over ownership on our loan and matched our interest rate! Also there is no penalty for an early pay-off which is great! I would highly recommend Neighbor's Federal Credit Union to anyone! We have had the best experience, and they are local so they are super convenient to deal with. Our savings account gets a pretty good return on our money as opposed to other big banks. We also have no ATM fees with their checking because we make more than 10 debit transactions per month.
Pros: Neighbors Federal Credit Union is a great bank. The staff is very friendly and take pride in customer satisfaction. Initially when opening an account with them; I had many questions. The representative answered all of my questions without any hesitation. Every time I go to NFCU, it's always a speedy process. It takes very little time to complete anything I may need done. I always felt comfortable with this bank. Another great thing about NFCU is that you can get a debit card printed the exact same day as you open a checking/savings account. This is a great thing for those that need to make purchases immediately.
Cons: This is a smaller bank. Therefore, it is harder to find bank locations in other cities. However, they do partner with other banks. So just check the site or call a representative to see partner banks for out of town convenience. Also, they do not have a 24 hours automated service. You pretty much have to wait till the next business day to talk to someone about any of your issues.
However, the pros outweigh the cons. I've banked with the bank for years. I've always been satisfied with service I've receive. They have great employees and great service. They value their customers. This is a great bank!
This has been my bank/credit union since I was 15 years old. The workers have always gone above and beyond to help us, whether it be from getting a credit card or a loan, or transferring funds. Everyone is so friendly and always felt like they want to help you. The facilities are nice, as there are many around the city so always and option to bank. They offer typical awards such as rewards checking and return on ATM fees, as well as a coin counting machine at each location. The drive through is always free except on pay day, but other than that I have no complaints
Though their customer service team is friendly, you get transferred back and forth, and no one seems to know what's going on. I tried to have an automated payment from an account I closed long ago removed, and they put me through the ringer on that. So inconvenient. Just kept sending me letters that I had a returned check...it's like, yeah, of course, that account doesn't exist anymore! I informed them of that multiple times. And when I tried to pay over the phone with my current checking account, they said I couldn't because of the current automated payment listed as my old account.
That part notwithstanding, their web payment system is a joke. They basically punish you for not keeping a checking account with them by making it a complete hassle. I was just on the phone with them for about an hour and a half, and I am still putting my final payment via check in the mail, hoping that they don't charge me a fee if it doesn't get to them on time. As I told them over the phone, I've been with a few other banks and NOTHING has been so awful as dealing with their inefficient system. Being polite only gets you so far, Neighbors. You might want to consider making it easier to bank at your institution. Your low interest rates are the only thing that kept me around this long, and at this point I'd gladly pay to never have to call you again. Thanks!
The web portal is a complete joke. It's down more often than it's up, during off hours. It sometimes works 8a-5p, when you don't really need it.
This happens VERY often. Comm errors when you try to login, or you can login, but all balance information is ****.** Bill pay is not accessible during these outages, so I hope you don't need to change any programmed payments. You will not be able to, and their stance is, "Tough luck".
It's very similar to banking at Bank of America.
Neighbors is not a credit union. They are a bank that pretends to be a credit union.
ANY credit union would be better than these folks.
