Won't honor their own printed policies, that are clearly spelled out in writing. Not worth the time for me to start an NCUA case against them, instead I went elsewhere. They may offer what seem like good deals, but you might want to avoid a place that doesn't follow their own clearly-stated policies. Went as high as I could go, then went elsewhere. Never seen anything like this before. Up to you, but you might want to look around for other options before trusting MSUFCU with your money.
I began banking with MSUFCU a few years ago and have been very pleased with the experience. I had previously done my banking with a large national bank and I hated it. The bank had rude and unhelpful employees, hidden fees and terrible customer service. MSUFCU has been wonderful. I have a savings account there and it did not require a large amount of money to set up. There are many convenient atms across my state that I can use to deposit money into my savings account. When I have gone into branch offices to deposit money, the staff has been very friendly and helpful. I do not have a lot of money in my savings account but the staff always treats me like a valued customer. I would definitely recommend starting an account with this credit union and putting your savings there. I also have a checking account with this institution and would recommend it. I have not had any trouble with unexpected fees on this account, which I did have trouble with at my old bank. They will not charge you for having too little money and they will actually listen to your concerns if you call for customer service.
I have done all my backing with the MSU Federal Credit Union for over 25 years, and I would recommend them to anyone! Having direct deposit of my paycheck to the MSU FCU was easy to set up and maintain. Using their checking and savings accounts has been the easiest of any bank I've ever worked with, and their customer support is outstanding. Their web access to accounts has continued to improve over the years, and I do the majority of my banking now either via their web site or the mobile app. When the time came to set up an account for my son, their children's savings account was easy to set up, and fun for my son to learn about. Programs they set up to encourage saving in children have worked well with my son, especially their Dollar Dog program. Kids earn Dollar Dog tokens every time they deposit into savings, and can then redeem the tokens for prizes! Finally, using their savings CDs has been easy, both in setup, and in rolling them over should I wish to renew the CD without cashing it out and paying a tax penalty. Overall, I've had nothing but positive experiences, and have trusted MSU FCU with my last two car loans, and my current mortgage. I highly recommend them.
I would strong recomend MSUFCU anyone looking to get started with their finances and build credit. My experience with MSUFCU has been more than positive and their fees are next to nothing. The service is always prompt and pleasure to do business with them
Walked into the Credit Union during my first week of my freshman year to only be treated with no respect like I was a 6 year old boy. That was the beginning to my problems then later turned into random charges that have taken months at a time to get back, to having NO ATM within my 1 mile radius of my apartment which is less than 1.5 miles away from campus. Every time I walk into the store there is only 1-2 people working and it has a bad, puke like, smell to it.
I have both a checking account and visa account, and have had my mortgage and auto loan through the MSU FCU, and for each of these accounts, have had superlative customer service. The fees and interest are very reasonable and competitive compared to other local banks. The credit union has several branch locations around the Lansing MI area, and the hours are great - it is one of the few banks I've ever heard of open on Saturdays! Completely recommend to new folks arriving in the area, or to people looking to switch banks.
