I started an application with Third Federal in mid April 2021 (after answering all their questions the application was submitted April 21st. They promised up front that the process would take from 45 to 60 days from start to finish.
I submitted everything they asked for the same day they asked. As others have complained, they asked for things I had already submitted - sometimes twice before.
My loan was finally approved mid June and I was sent a letter congratulating me which also said I would be contacted soon to sign documents.
It is now August 2021, well over three months later, and my loan has not closed!
If you are thinking it is just me, poor credit, bad debt, etc., well my FICO score is 850 out of 850. I have never missed a payment ever in the last fifty years. My income is great as well. To top it all off, my home currently is mortgaged with Third Federal with an equity line!
So if you are thinking about using this company, think again. Now on the fourth month of my loan process, I really wish I had gone with another company.
I had a CD maturing. I called a few days in advance to tell them to send me a check at maturity (since they do not do ACH transfers). I was told I had to call On the the maturity date. I called on the maturity date. I was told I had to request the check in writing and it had to be notarized. I told the customer service person that their letter did not require notarization. He said Well, it has to be an original signature. i said that is not a notarized signature.
Never again!!
After evaluating several options, I selected Third Federal for a home mortgage and CDs. The bank has very competitive interest rates and fees. The company has very knowledgeable and friendly employees that are genuinely looking out for your best interests as they want to maintain you as a lifelong customer.
We have banked at Third Federal for more than 40 years. When we bought our first house we got our mortgage through them and have used them for savings accounts, CD's and other mortgages. The customer service is great, everyone is friendly, very knowledgeable and make it easy to understand.
This is a great bank. They only have a couple of accounts that are simple to understand, no fees, no minimums. Very happy.
Nice, friendly staff; very helpful! Have checking, savings, and home mortgage with them. Competitive rates. Few locations, however, they have no-fee ATM use at Fifth Third Banks which are everwhere.
