River CU: Supporting your local "grass-roots" bank

River Valley Credit Union is a great little bank in south-eastern Vermont. Having grown up in the area and used them since opening my first bank account, over the long run I have been very impressed with this bank. It's a credit union so there are no fees for having a checking or savings account. The only requirement is that you keep a constant $25 dollars in your savings as a member "share" which makes you a part "owner" of the bank. It's a credit union after all!

Additional Factors: Institutions with a small asset base, a short operating history, or negative return on assets can represent an instability risk beyond what their financial ratios indicate. River Valley CU (VT) has a relatively low asset base.
