10 Years With Stcu, And They'Ve Treated Me Right.

Posted by: |

I've had an account with STCU since I was 16. I've always felt welcomed in their numerous branch offices around Spokane. They've made managing my money a lot less scary than it might be with a larger and less personal bank.

I especially remember one winter where my holiday shopping ended up draining my checking account, and I had four overdraft fees because of my purchases. When I explained the problem to an STCU rep, they were able to forgive the overdrafts without any issues. Also they were very helpful when I lost my debit card. Their online banking is also very well set up, transfers are fast, and their budgeting page is very helpful for keeping an eye on income and spending.

My only complaint would probably be that their branches are not open on weekends, which can make it somewhat difficult to make deposits from time to time.

But overall, I'm glad that STCU is my bank.

STCU Has Done A Good Job For Me.

I have been doing business with this credit union for over 5 years and have been pleased with them. They have been easy to work with, and have continued to maintain a very strong (currently A+) health rating on DA. Among their CD offerings, they have some with the capability to add funds after initial opening. The add-on CDs can be helpful in a time of uncertain rates. Currently a 5 year CD with add-on capability pays 2.02%APY, min $2K deposit), although the amount which can be added in any month is capped at $5K.

At one time, the credit union had an online membership application which allowed eligibility for membership through an association (see details here) and perhaps they will keep that avenue open in the new version of the membership app.

STCU helps with student loans

When I was in the agonizing steps of paying my student loans I suddenly found myself short on funds and incapable of making payments. I subsequently changed my student loan payment plan but not before an additional, and unauthorized, transaction went through on my Spokane Teachers Credit Union account from my student loans. Despite my frustration STCU was able to talk me down, and guide me through the steps of getting my money back. The process took maybe a week, and roughly an hour of my time on the phone and with the scanner, but STCU got me my money back and made it as painless as humanly possible. I will always be grateful for their assistance with that matter, and I continue to be impressed with their service. I highly recommend this bank to anyone who is currently frustrated with their own.

convenient

The branch in Cheney is very convenient. I use these guys with my Global account, since the nearest Global branch is all the way in downtown Spokane. Because of this, I can't really speak to products or using their website. I can only talk about the in-person experience at that branch. They are friendly and helpful, and I've never seen a long line. There's always lots of room to park, too. The drive-through ATM is the most convenient way to get money out in Cheney as well. STCU is near...well everything in Cheney, since it's such a small place, so it's never out of the way to drop by. It's in the lot with Safeway and Starbucks.

Overdraft Fees

When I first started banking at STCU I thought they were great. They seemed very helpful and seemed as though they had the customers best interest. As my time banking with them went on I found different. They charge overdraft fees like no other. They have a system where if you run out of money and try to buy something with your debit card they still allow you to purchase your item and then charge you a $25 overdraft fee. They act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to buy whatever it is you're buying. In addition if you buy gas, the gas station will cause a pending transaction of $100 and then later charge you for the amount of gas you actually bought. Well, if you only have $75 in your account and buy gas for $30 and then right after that try to purchase something they charge you an overdraft fee because that $100 is pending. When I called to ask about this the best answer I received was that I needed to check my account before purchasing items. Apparently even when you have money in your account you're not always allowed to use it. Awesome STCU. You sure are looking out for us.
