Best Banking Experience

Posted by: |

We moved our accounts from BoA to United Heritage. It was our first experience with a credit union. We had both personal and business accounts opened. They were extremely polite, offering the best customer service I have enjoyed at any banking institution. They were able to accommodate many of our unusual requests. We had to do some business overseas and needed a large number of used but good condition hundred dollar bills. They preselected a bunch, and let us examine them in a private office, exchanging ones we could not use for others. Their web banking was a much nicer experience than what we were used to at BoA. It did not time out, or have any of the numerous problems that the BoA site has. It was much easier to navigate, and their system updated to accurately show transactions and balances far faster than at BoA. I would say the BoA system would take three days for some transactions, while United would be closer to 24, and instantaneous for some transactions. This may be because they credited our account before the transactions were fully processed, trusting that they would. I cannot say for sure, but it was nice to have access to those funds immediately. I would say we were a larger account, which may have helped our customer experience, but I never heard any complaints. The branches were also very well kept, provided free coffee and popcorn, and had a quick turn around. They always had two to three tellers available, even when there were no lines. I did not use any of their other products, but I have trust that they were good, based on my other experiences.

My Local Credit Union.

I was surprised to read the other 2 reviews.  I have had pretty good experiences with this credit union.  Now I will preface this review with this.  I have never had a problem with overdrafts or fees as I keep at least $8K in the account.

Granted, the interest rate is not the best.  I remember getting 6% interest on my checking account up to $25K.  Those were the days.  Making $100+ a month in a checking account was great.  I have stayed for the service though.  All the people at the bank recognize me when I come in.  This is quite a different experience that with every other bank I have dealt with.

In response to the direct deposit issue.  I have my paycheck direct deposited and I see the money a full day earlier than most other banks.  Now I will say this.  I took off a star due to the long hold time I have seen on a couple of checks.  The hold time was not outside what was legally allowed, but it was a bit inconvenient.

I recommend United Hermitage on a regular basis.  They provide a very welcoming banking experience, and I genuinely feel they appreciate my business.

My Experience

They are the worst. Terrible technologies where they lock you out, unlimited draft fees, and they wait 2 weeks to notify you while racking up charges. The worst bank I have ever opened an account with.

Ridiculous Check Deposit Policies!

I usually don't do reviews, but I am so pissed at their checking deposit scam I feel like I need to warn others. We have been with United Heritage for over 10 years but the last few have been SO FRUSTRATING! We have several personal checking and savings accounts, multiple car loans, and 2 business accounts with them. The main problem is they hold funds from check deposits for long periods of time while only releasing small amounts at a time even though they moved the money already. We have not had any late payments or bounced any checks, and we usually have accounts with 10's of thousands and large savings accounts. Our son was getting his pay check from Home Depot held repeatedly. We were building a house and we had a construction loan and construction checking account at another bank. When we wrote any check to reimburse ourselves United Heritage would hold our check from ourselves to ourselves and would not release the funds! Even though we could see they withdrew the funds from our other account to just sit on our money for a week or more!! Some of those checks were around $50,000.00! I have had large business checks held for a week or more, from customers I repeatedly do business with that have never bounced a check before. The final straw just happened last week! One of our cars was paid off last year and we just had an accident, no injuries, but it was totaled. We tried to deposit the check from Geico, but United Heritage would only deposit a few hundred dollars immediately, then part next Friday, then the rest on the 21st from Gieco!!!! We had already had the check for a week before we even had time to go to the bank to deposit the check. We had them give us the Geico check back and told the manager we will be closing all our other accounts next week!!! I don't know what happened, because it was not always like this, but I have talked to a few other people with similar stories. It has happened at multiple branches, so it's not just an isolated incident but a policy issue. Changing banks is a pain, but time to go. Buyer beware of United Heritage!

Unhappy Customer

I have had nothing but bad service from this credit union since I moved my money there in April. Needless to say I will be going elsewhere. Our retirement check stub came in the mail on Friday August 31. Because this bank requires direct deposit we did not receive that check and have no money in our account as of September 1st. The bank says there is nothing that can be done until Tuesday September 4th due to the holiday. If I did not have direct deposit I would have my money. I was told when I had direct deposit if the 1st fell on a Sunday or a holiday the money would be in the bank before that date. Now they get to hold onto my money for 4 each days while I celebrate my birthday tomorrow at home with no money and unable to do anything. Thanks a lot.
