International Credit Union Week - Post Your Credit Union Deals

International Credit Union (ICU) Week begins today (Oct 17), and ICU Day is Thursday (Oct 20). ICU Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. It’s not only celebrated in the U.S., but it’s also celebrated in many other countries that are part of the World Council of Credit Unions. The Council’s website lists the countries with membership. It’s interesting that several European nations are not listed. It appears cooperative savings banks take the place of credit unions in those countries.

The newsworthy feature of ICU Week is that many credit unions celebrate the week with good deals for their members. Often the deals may just be some refreshments at the credit union branches on ICU Day. However, there are occasional deposit account deals.

So far, the best ICU deal this year is the 5-year CD (2.50% APY) at Dover Federal Credit Union. Details of this deal can be found in this blog post. The deal was first mentioned by DA reader NYCDoug who posted on the deal in the DA forum (Thanks!)

Posting a Deal in the Forum

To post a deal in the forum, go to our Bank Promotions forum and click the “Post a Deal” button. If you’re not logged into DA, it’ll ask you to log in or register (You only need an email address, username and password to register.) Once you’re logged in, you’ll be ask to enter the name of the bank or credit union. DA will offer suggestions as you type.

Once DA finds your institution, a form is displayed with a title field and a body field. Just type a summary of the deal in the body. To include a link, highlight with your mouse the text that you want to turn into a link and click the link button.

After you finish writing the title and the summary, just click the “Post deal” button, and the post will be published in the forum. If you find a mistake or issue with the post, you can edit it after it’s published. Click the edit link that’s under the post title. Please note that a forum post can only be edited within a few hours after publication.

After ICU Week, please keep a lookout for deposit deals at both credit unions and banks. Not all deals are posted on banks’ websites. Sometimes the deals are only mentioned in newspaper ads or at a bank branch. These are the cases that we really need your help. Your forum posts are greatly appreciated!
