If you go to the Neighbors Bank's savings account page as I write this, you will see that it says again: "We're currently not accepting new Neighbors Savings accounts."

With $91M in assets one can see why it doesn't want to grow!  After all its been around since 1945!

@midas89 I clicked on your link and the 4.60% offer is still there. It's always said that "we're currently not accepting new savings accounts."

Hi @ichaelm Sorry for any confusion my posting caused. I did not say the page did not mention the 4.60% APY. I was saying that if you look to the left side of the page, you will see that it states: "We're currently not accepting new Neighbors Savings accounts." I assure you that for quite a while, the notice about not accepting new accounts was not on the webpage. It was added yesterday, and I have automatic page monitoring to advise me of this change...and I received the notice of the change early this morning. I know it had said not accepting new accounts in the past for a long time, but then this wording was removed for quite a while.

Yesterday and for quite a while, the page said: "Good news! We're beginning to accept new Neighbors Savings accounts"

Now it has been changed to: "First, some bad news: We're currently not accepting new Neighbors Savings Accounts"

@midas89 It has ALWAYS said "we're not accepting new savings accounts" and prompted people to leave their email addresses. The account application is still available

@ichaelm I promise you what you wrote is not true. And I can prove it. Again, I have multiple monitoring tracking that sends me via email exactly what was there on a page I have requested monitoring, and exactly what has been changed. Two separate monitoring services sent me notice and included the old wording and the new. In addition, I looked at the page myself a few days ago and prior to that and saw the text that said what I quoted in bold above.

@ichaelm In case you are wondering what the two separate monitoring services that notified me early this morning of the change on the Neighbors page:

Wachete (dot) com

and

FollowThatPage (dot) com

These services check the webpages daily and they capture exactly what is on a webpage, etc.

Come on everyone, we're all on the same page here, we're all trying to help each other out and people make mistakes, myself included. Much appreciated. I happened to notice the small change too but only because just by chance I had looked a few days before, and then again after the change. Neighbors has been up on Deposit Quest constantly and for such a small bank they're probably getting flooded. Especially if someone didn't have a large amount there weren't many other choices to match it. It's probably hard for small Neighbors to figure out their exposure, since each customer can have up to $250k but many may have just $1 in for now, and who knows if they'll have money, if they'll put it in or not, and how much. In a way I'm glad they closed for new accounts again for the time being -- better to be able to offer a higher rate than, with their small size, have it always be open to join and thus have to "thin out the ranks" by lowering the rate.

@racecar Regarding Deposit Quest, I think that place is the closest to what The Tuminator did here at Deposit Accounts for so many years when he owned it, where he would regularly publish the useful articles concerning the top rates and their changes, etc. I recommend that Deposit Quest should be on everyone's list.

An easy to remember link to there: tinyurl.com/DQSubstack or tinyurl.com/depositquest

I do realize that DQ Substack sounds like another one of my failed businesses where I combined a Dairy Queen and a Subway into one. You should have seen the reaction when I presented to investors my idea for the Footlong Blizzard. They insisted I immediately return all of their money.

I agree with you and am glad Neighbors put back on their site "not accepting new accounts".

Hah, your "failed business" name reminds me of that song so many people I know like... "The Prayer" that Bocelli sings all the time. What most would never guess is that it was originally written for a cheesy (see? I brought food back into it) 1990s animated movie that almost no one saw, "The Quest for Camelot." Good trivia question anytime someone tells you, "oh, I love that song!"

I have to say, I am impressed with Neighbors. I actually haven't put much there because I don't have much liquid now after those MACU 5% offerings, but their rate is good, anytime I have a question they've been super friendly, they allow up to 5 external accounts, a decent ACH limit... and I'd never have known about the place without DA (or rather, DA's users) and DQ.

@racecar I laughed when you wrote you brought food back into it. I looked up "The Quest for Camelot" and see that the voice cast is very impressive. And that Celine Dion and Steve Perry did some of the singing. (Oh my, when I first typed here the last word of the movie's title, I did a typo, and put the letter u after the C, and the letter a after the m. I'm glad I caught it. Although, if that had been the actual title, perhaps the film would've not been a movie no one saw.)

I have been with Neighbors since it was made available in 2020, and appreciated that they never dropped below 0.70% APY during the Fed Funds zero rate pandemic period.

appreciate the deposit quest info and the easy links, and enjoyed the humor. Much better to have a laugh than the negativity and political stuff that sometimes permeates some of the other comments threads. Neighbors Bank would be much better if their ach out limit was higher than $10k. Their in limit of $50k is good.

I don't know about this. The account application is still available. After I entered my phone and DOB it texted me a code. I clicked on the the code and it took me to the application page. After I completed the information, I was notified that my application had been approved!

Ha! Thank you for pointing that out! That's what I wrote 2 days ago and everyone told me that I was wrong. The account application link has ALWAYS been there.

@ichaelm My post was very specific. I only reported that the webpage wording changed. I made no mention at all whether the direct sign-up link would be successful or not. You replied that the wording on the webpage always said "we are not accepting new accounts". I replied that I have proof you are wrong and that the site didn't always say that. No one told you that that you were wrong specifically regarding the direct icorego link (which is not published at the Neighbors webpage directly) and whether that icorego link itself would still lead to successful account opening. So again what you wrote this morning is not accurate. Again, no one told you that you were wrong about the icorego link at all. Nobody mentioned that. Only that you were wrong when you stated the Neighbors website always said they were not accepting new accounts.

I am glad Chicago was successful.

@midas89 Thank you for your explanation. I see what you're saying. Since Chicago was apparently able to open an account today, even though he or she couldn't apply for the account directly at the Neighbors Bank website, it seems to me that despite what is written on the splash page, Neighbors Bank is still offering savings accounts. Would you agree?

@ichaelm You're welcome. Yes, while the https://www.neighborsbank.com/savings/ page says "Bad news: We're currently not accepting new Neighbors Savings accounts", the icorego.com middleman link which handles taking the applications still works. This icorego.com link is not listed at the Neighbors site, as you know.

icorego is a middleman company (DataCenterInc.) that offers community banks services, such as taking in new account applications, as one example.

The wording on Neighbors Bank's savings acct page that new accounts are not being accepted is obviously a mistake, as Chicago reported success going directly to the middleman company's application page. And all I reported originally was that the wording on the Neighbors Bank's page had changed.

@midas89 thanks for your additional explanation. When I first read the title of this thread, I interpreted it to mean that Neighbors is no longer accepting new accounts, but now I see that's not what you wrote. You wrote that the splashpage (apparently incorrectly) claims that the bank is no longer accepting new accounts. My apologies for my misinterpretation. You were right; I was wrong.

May we all always have Happy Banking!

nobody told you that you were wrong about whether https://landing-neighborsbank.icorego.com/ worked or did not work. People told you that you were wrong about something else you insisted on when you first put the word always in all capital letters. You shouted the word always when you insisted that the Neighbors' site never deviated from the statement they were not accepting new accounts. And people called you out on this, and only this.

Whoa I just wrote how an amazing coincidence it was that imkelly chicago and fdic all happen to have their user icon be their name , and with same font too.  Then i posted it and look theres my name the same way! No i am not the same person. It looks like this is what this website is doing this now? Instead of the happy blue man icon? Or only to some people? Huh? Where is blue man!

@uhwtm2 If you also look at user Choice1 comment above, you will also see that there is no blue man avatar. I have seen this avatar image glitch in the past. It in no way signifies that anyone is the same person. There are a lot of glitches with this site, as posted at different forums here. One of the worst is that I cannot load my Subscriptions page.

Currently it appears that the standard blue man avatar exists for usernames created before or during 2017, and the icon containing the first 4 or 5 characters of the username now appears for usernames created in 2018 or later.

When i went to that savings link today did not see whether new accounts were being accepted or not. Nor was it obvious how to open an account online, other than possibly entering an email address and see what happens. Much to do about trying to get those extra 10 to 20bps, eh.

@milty As I write this reply, the site address https://www.neighborsbank.com/savings/ still is showing me "First, some bad news: We're currently not accepting new Neighbors Savings accounts."

(I won't be surprised if they change it in the future, of course.)

@ milty Neighbors Bank is the only bank that I'm aware of which sends you to a 3rd party website if you want to apply for an account, although a lot of smaller banks do that if you want to apply for their credit card. (they usually send you to Elan Bank)

@ichaelm I have dealt with quite a few banks over the years that contract with a middleman financial services company to handle account opening applications online. I will give you one major example at random just off the top of my head, and that is the great Customers Bank. If you click to open a savings account there, the link for the applications page takes you to a website address that is not Customers Bank, but is an address at online-banking-services (dot) com ... which is owned by "Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (FIS).

@midas89 I was unaware of that. In that case, I wonder how many other banks icorego contracts with in addition to Neighbors? It looks like Neighbors doesn't offer credit cards.
midas89

@ichaelm No doubt they contract with a lot of banks. icorego is really Data Center Incorprated (DCI) ... and they claim: ""DCI is a leading developer of Fintech, core processing, and digital banking solutions. We strive to be an advocate for community banks nationwide."

Thanks, midas89.    My bad, I needed to read the not-so fine print below:
"A Neighbors Savings Account That Makes Sense, Not Cents"

Since it couldn't be clearer (if I had read it), it is strange that they are still opening accounts via that 3rd party.

So what is the current HYS rate that is causing so much interest---DA says they don't rate them and I don't see them in the DA dropdown---And is this the one in Columbia, MO
