A friend of mine just started this bonus yesterday. In reference to your last paragraph he had never had an account of any kind at ETrade and shortly after he completed the online application he received the offer email from them.

Nice that the account pays 4%. I like bonuses like this that pay a savings rate so you can withdraw the money if a better deal comes along and not lose a lot of money.

I've seen comments elsewhere that Morgan Stanley is stiffing people on the bonuses. There is a very suspicious clause in the fine print that they are apparently using to deny bonuses to people who met all the requirements either on this bonus or a previous one.

But I believe that suspicious clause appears on this one too.

Yep, just looked it up. It's there:

"If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated the Deposit Account Agreement or have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with your account, we may determine that you are not eligible for the Cash Bonus. In such circumstance, we may rescind or decline to award you the Cash Bonus.”

What exactly is "gaming?" If you meet the requirements apparently you can still be considered guilty of gaming from the comments I've seen and be denied the bonus.

This wording seems very scammy to me. And the comments I read seem to back that up.

This looks like a pretty decent bonus since the savings account pays 4%. The lost opportunity cost if you have a 5% savings/MMA/CD is about $125 over 2 months netting you $625. So with the bonus the rate over 2 months would be 9% ROI. Rough math that's counting the 4% rate plus the bonus minus lost opportunity cost.

STAY AWAY.
THE THING IS NOT AS IT STATED.
WORRY NOT ABOUT PROMOTION REQUIREMENT, PAY ATTENTION TO INTERPRETETION.
From my individual experience requirement "Maintain your balance for 45 additional days" is meaningless.
The small print "If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated the Deposit Account Agreement or have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with your account, we may determine that you are not eligible for the Cash Bonus. In such circumstance, we may rescind or decline to award you the Cash Bonus. We reserve the right to modify or revoke this Cash Bonus offer at any time without notice" IS A RULLER.
From my personal experience of having Premier Relationship with ETRADE, MSPB would not hesitate to exercise "it sole discretion" and piss me off by denying meager $250 Bonus as if ETRADE Customers are illiterate donkeys.

Yeah I wouldn't want to go through all that work only to be denied due to some interpretation. I saw on DoC that people were saying this is a targeted offer so that would give them all the excuse they need to deny you the bonus. I was just evaluating the offer.

Yes the other suspicious language in the fine print...

"To take advantage of this offer, you must be the original recipient of the offer email from us."
