5.50% 12-Month CD at a Texas Bank and $50 Checking Account Bonus (Century)

Century Bank offering a 5.50% APY 12-month certificate of deposit. There's a $1,000 minimum. The CD may be opened in an IRA. A new or existing Century Bank checking account is required. If you open a new checking account, you'll qualify for a $50 cash bonus that'll be deposited into your account. No direct deposit is required. Note, you can get the $50 bonus without the CD.

The CD and checking account bonus are not listed at the bank's website. The CD was advertised in today's Dallas Morning News. The ad is available online here. A reader left a comment regarding the checking account bonus. I called for more info and was told you have to visit one of the branches to open the accounts.

Century Bank does offer a free checking account with no monthly balance requirements or monthly service charges.

Branches are primarily located in the Dallas Texas area. Branches are also located in the Texas cities of Texarkana, Addison, Atlanta, Farmers Branch and New Boston.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned the checking account bonus in the finding deals post.

This bank has many locations in the Dallas area. Has had this rate or better for quite awhile. Yet they are never mentioned in the high yield charts on the web or in the Dallas paper. I don't understand why they are snubbed.

My guess is that these are promotional rates that require a checking account. So Bankrate doesn't list it. It's one of the flaws in Bankrate in my opinion.

I'll be listing this in my weekly summaries (my local deals section).
