Update on Wachovia's $50 Checking Account Bonus

POSTED ON BY

Wachovia Bank
Wachovia extended its $50 checking account bonus to 4/24/07. The new promotional page link is listed at Wachovia's Checking Account page.

As I mentioned in the previous post, this bonus has several nice features in that it doesn't require direct deposit and it pays in cash credited to your account within 60 days of the offer's expiration date. The account must be opened online and funded with a minimum of $100.

Wachovia's free checking account has the basic components of free checking: no minimum balance requirements, no monthly fees, etc. A reader in the previous post mentioned that Wachovia does a hard credit pull (via Experian). I called for some additional information. According to the banking representative, checks are not free, however, they are optional. You can just use the free debit card and free online BillPay. The cost of checks varies by state. For Texas, a book of 50 costs $7 and a book of 120 cost $19. There is a $25 fee if the account is closed before 6 months. In addition to the hard pull, Wachovia also does a ChexSystem verification.

There's also a $50 bonus for the student checking account which is valid through 4/30/07. Here's the student checking promotional page.

Wachovia also has a 5% money market promotion in which balances of $25K and above earn 5% APY for 90 days. This is for new money only. See my Wachovia money market post for more details.

For those in Texas, the Wachovia 5.40% APY 7-month CD still seems to be available. See my Wachovia CD post for more details.

Thanks to David who mentioned this bonus extension.

A hard credit pull or inquiry slightly dings your credit score. More details on this issue is available at this FW thread.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to link to external accounts through Wachovia? I've looked all around the site, and I can't find how to do it. (I can find the transfers page, but that's only for Wachovia accounts.)

I haven't done this Wachovia bonus, but for other bank promotions, I've had to either call or send them a message through their bank message system before they would credit my account.

I had to email them several times about this It was a pain, nothing like what the ad stated, that it would be directly put in account, instead they told us first she wasn't going to get it since she had a child account and put it into a Student Checking account I called the 800# they told me I had to go to the branch and to print out the form which I did, I went to the branch, they told me no that it is offered online after debating, Mind U this is not showing my daughter a very good example that How companies honor their promos after writing so many time finally after being told No she wouldn't get it I wrote them and told them that this is my last email to them N it was a shame to show my teen daughter how their company honors their promos Mind U not hostile at all Actually I was disgusted I got to say N by the way NO HOLLERING AT ALL
AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS she finally received it
was it worth my Stress NO IT WAS NOT
