5.64% 60-Month / 5.54% 24-Month CD at a Florida CU (CFE)

Update 11/03/07: CD rates have dropped. Please check credit union's website for latest rates.

CFE Federal Credit Union is offering a 5.64% APY 60-month term share certificate. Certificates with terms of 24 to 59 months have a yield of 5.54% APY. The minimum deposit is $1,000. The same rates are also available in IRA certificates. These rates have remained competitive through out this year. My last report on this credit union was on July 1st.

CFE's certificates have some nice features. One is that the early withdrawal penalty on certificates is only 90 days of interest which is below average for long-term CDs. Also, these can be opened online once you're a member.

Membership is open to those who live, work, worship, volunteer or attend school in the Florida counties of Orange, Osceola, Seminole, or Lake. Please see their eligibility page for more details. Membership requires a $5 minimum deposit into the share savings account and a $10 one-time membership fee.

Branches are located in Apopka, Orlando, Forest City, Kissimmee, Leesburg, Sanford, and Winter Garden. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 1976). It's a large credit union with over $1.1 billion in assets and 115,910 members.
