5.41% 8-Month / 5.25% 13-Month CD at World Savings

POSTED ON BY

World Savings continues to offer a 5.41% APY 8-month certificate of deposit. It also recently started offering a 5.25% APY 13-month CD. Both have a minimum deposit of $10,000, and neither requires new funds. These are in-branch rates and may vary based on your state. The 5-month internet 5.41% CD special is no longer available.

World Savings is now part of Wachovia, and World Savings' website is suppose to be converted over to Wachovia this month. So this may be the last chance that we'll see World Savings CD specials. These latest CD specials are not as good as those secret CD specials that I reported on many times last year, but the rates are still competitive. Also, unlike the advertised Wachovia CD specials, these World Savings CDs don't require a checking account.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned these CD rates in the comments.

My World Savings checking account will be converted to a Wachovia checking account next month. I wonder if I'll then be able to get Wachovia CDs that require a checking account?

Just opened on-line and instructed to mail check (Got rates after putting in my zip code). Stated needs to be new funds

"New Funds Only" means that you must open the account with funds from a financial institution other than World Savings

Seems rates still vary by zipcode as Phoenix metropolitan area rates are:

8 mo. 5.35% APY
13 mo. 5.25% APY

Also, online account applications are unavailable until the transistion to Wachovia on 10/15/2007.

i dont think that world savings does a hard credit pull but i know that wachovia does. I wonder if it would be worth it to open a checking account now with world to avoid one when it becomes wachovia later this month. any ideas?

The rates are not only in-branch. I just opened the 5.41% 8-month CD on line. You can fund the CD by mailing in a check and your rate is guaranteed for 10 days from the date of application online. Also, new funds are no longer required.
