NuVision Credit Union
NuVision Federal Credit Union is offering a special 5.10% APY 5-month certificate. The minimum deposit is $1,000, and the maximum is $100,000. New money is required. According to the promotional page, the offer is valid through 1/31/08.

I last reported on this credit unioin in November 2007 when it was offering a 5.35% 13-month CD. When I called the credit union at that time I was told that the special CD could be opened by phone and funded by mailing in a check.

Field of membership includes members of the American Consumer Council. Anyone can join this organization with a $6 membership fee. In the online credit union application, it allows you to select this council for eligibility, and it states: "If you are interested in joining the Council and the credit union, click this option and continue applying for membership." See the site for other ways to be eligible without joining this council. You can be eligible via select employer groups and via immediate family.

Branches are located in the California cities of Huntington Beach, Laguna Hills, Lakewood and Seal Beach. There's also a branch in Mesa, Arizona, but it's only accessible to Boeing employees. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 566). It has $815.6 million in assets and 51,412 members.

Don't waste your time. I completed the online app to find out the 5 month CD was NOT listed as an option.

It looks like to open a savings accounts and then transfer funds into the saving account to fund the CD. However, the CD expires.

I sent a check on Friday and they opened the 5 month CD for me today. It's not listed in the application form but a CSR on the phone said I can put the "5 months CD" on the form and send it with a check. To my surprise, I got an email from them yesterday saying "this promotion is available for Boeing employees only and several restrictions apply", but I pointed out that the restrictions are not on their announcement. They eventually opened the account for me. I don't know if the restrictions were really for this promotion or the misunderstanding on the representative's part.

I called today and was told to complete the online application, send a copy of the promotional ad with the check to fund the account and an extra $5 for membership. Originally thought that this was a Boeing only offer, but said they would honor any advertisement. The CSR noted my name, email, and address and provided her name and the name of the individual who would follow through. The promotion is not being promoted, but is still be honored.

Thanks for the info. Glad they decided to honor this special especially since it's still listed under their special offers section of their website.

What a messed up CU.

Indicated CD was for Boeing employees only then said it expired.

They do not want to honor their commitments.
