$100 Checking Account Bonus at Webster Bank
Feb 27, 2008 - 8:59 AM by Ken Tumin
Webster Bank is offering up to $100 for opening a checking account. As typical, it requires some work. The promotional page link is available from this checking account page (green button link on upper right side). Here are the requirements to receive the $100 after you open the checking account:
The checking account must be opened by 3/7/08, and is available to new checking account customers only. All activities must be completed by 5/9/08 to qualify for the bonus.
The promo page states that you automatically qualify for this offer if you apply online. I called the bank, and I was told that people in any state can apply and qualify for the bonus. Also, I was told there's no hard credit pull. They just do a ChexSystem verification. Note, this is based on what the CSR told me. He didn't sound 100% sure on these issues so please let me know in the comments if you find any complications.
Branches are located throughout Southern New England and in Westchester County, New York. The bank is FDIC insured (Certificate # 18221).
- $20 for your first Direct Deposit
- + $20 for paying 3 bills online
- + $20 for making 3 purchases with your Visa Check Card
- + $40 bonus if you do all three

I would like to try. Promotion requirements are not too dificult to do. Only one Direct Deposit? I can just do with my e-Bay transaction.
However, I searched Webster Bank and found this. http://www.complaints.com/directory/2006/october/19/33.htm
Their overdraft fee seems very high and transaction seems to have problems.
You better wait a few days to start debit puarchase or bill payment.

The CSR had correct information, I checked it out as well.

I opened an account with Webster.
I have difficulty funding $50 as initial deposit and have been calling them how to deposit. I live in California so there's no ATM around here.
Did anyone notice that this bank was not FDIC member?

Not a FDIC memer? I included a link to their FDIC information in the post. Please note that the FDIC website has been very flaky and slow in the last few days.

I am midway thru the application and get this screen

So I guess the CSR is right.

I am the person who just left a comment. I am done with the app but again there is no way to do any initial funding. I guess I'll just return a check with the docs in the new account package

I spoke with a CSR (who sounded knowledgable) and was told the initial funding can be done by including a check in the return envelope they send along with signature documents.
