$40 Checking Account Bonus at National Bank of Kansas City

National Bank of Kansas City
National Bank of Kansas City is offering a $40 gas card for opening a personal checking account. The promotion doesn't seem to require direct deposit, and their free checking qualifies. Offer expires 5/3/08.

Below is some of the important small print:
Online applicants must come into a bank branch to sign final account opening paperwork and pick up the gift. We will report to the IRS any premium. ... Gift is distributed at time of account opening. Checking account must remain open for 90 days. Minimum deposit to open is $50. Limit two gifts per household.

Last year I reported on the bank's high CD rates. CD accounts can be opened online by people in any state. Their CD rates are still fairly competitive.

I noticed they have very competitive rates on Health Savings Accounts. They're currently offering 4.00% APY on all balances. The HSA has a $15 set-up fee and a monthly fee if account balance is under $5,000.

Bank branches are located in Excelsior Springs and Platte City, Missouri and in Leawood, Kansas. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1999 (FDIC Certificate # 35014).
