Up to $160 Checking Account Bonus at FBOP Banks in CA, TX, AZ & IL

Cal National Bank and the subsidiaries of the FBOP Corporation are offering a bonus of up to $160 in gift cards for opening a free checking account and performing certain activities. The promotion is listed on the right side of the Cal National's checking page.

The promotion rewards points, and these can be used for travel, gift cards and merchandise. A maximum of 20,000 points can be earned in the first month:

• 5,000 points with your first online bill payment or automatic payment from checking
• 5,000 points when you sign up for direct deposit
• Up to 10,000 points for Visa check card signature purchases in the first 30 days (1,000 points per purchase)

It appears 20,000 points can be worth about $160 in gift cards.

I had first posted on this deal in August 2008. There's an online application, but readers in that post mentioned that the Cal National accounts are only available to California residents. I recently learned from this FW thread that the deal is still available and is also being offered by other subsidiaries of the FBOP Corporation which are located in a few other states.
