2.25% 11-Month CD at First National Community Bank

First National Community Bank (PA)
First National Community Bank continues to offer competitive rates on its Maximum Earning CDs. The current Bonus APY is 2.25% for terms of 11, 15 and 18 months. Minimum deposit is $5,000. The CDs require a new or existing Maximum Earnings Checking Account which is a free reward checking account that I first reported on in March. The 2.25% APY is listed in the bank's promotions page as of 7/31/09.

There's an online application, and according to the CSR, people from any state can apply. However, a few readers who tried to apply for the savings account were rejected and were told it was due to them not being a Pennsylvania resident (see comments). According to the CSR they do have out-of-state customers, and other readers who don't live in PA have reported success in the account application. So your miles may vary. Please leave a comment if you've applied for any of these accounts.

The bank's online savings account has remained competitive since I first reported on it in March (see account review). The rate is currently 1.75% APY on all balances. The Maximum Earnings Checking also remains competitive with a 4.01% APY for balances up to $25,000 (see account review).

The bank is based in Dunmore, Pennsylvania with several branches in the northeast part of the state.

The bank has some fair ratings for safety and soundness: 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com and 3 stars (adequate) at BauerFinancial. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 7472).

Do any current customers have any feedback on this bank? I was looking at their rewards checking account the other day and was impressed as the bank's online banking platform seemed to be a lot better than most other banks offering rewards checking accounts (i.e., clean interface and ach transfers). I find that a lot of the rewards checking accounts don't offer ACH transfer capabilities and the web platforms are often quite primitive.
