2.25% 8-Month CD at Northfield Bank in NY & NJ - Local Only

Northfield Bank has a CD special with a competitive rate of 2.25% APY. The term is 8 months, and the minimum deposit is $2,500. This special doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me news of this, and I just called for additional details. The CSR did confirm that it's available as of today (7/17/09), however, she didn't know how much longer it would last. It is available at all of their branches.

I was told that this special CD does require a branch visit to open. Branches are located in Staten Island, Brooklyn and New Jersey.

Northfield Bank has strong ratings for safety and soundness: 5 stars (superior) at BauerFinancial and 4 stars (sound) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1983 (FDIC Certificate # 28710).
